1.  Get a haircut NOW

I know this may seem weird, but in order to grow your nappy hair fast, they must be healthy, without split ends. When your hair grows, the dead ends start  breaking so you will notice no difference or will lose some length.

Visit your hairdresser regularly to cut your split ends. The frequency depends on your hair routine and the amount of heat you use.

2.  Reduce the heat

Using heat for drying and styling your hair must be limited to “emergency” situations and when you have no other choice. Heat is your worst enemy, especially if you have afro or curly hair as it dries out and damages your hair. Let them dry naturally.

3.  Wrap your nappy hair during bedtime

Wrapping your hair with a silk or satin scarf or a hat, will reduce the friction and prevent the breakage of your hair. This tip works literally amazing if you want to keep your hair in shape as well.

4.  Don’t over-wash natural afro hair

You should shampoo black hair about once every 7 to 10 days. If you over-wash your hair, you dry out your scalp and ends and that leads to more breakage.

5.  Detangle your knots during bath time

I know! It can seem difficult to detangle nappy hair. The best time to do it is when you are ready to rinse out the conditioner, when your hair is silky and easy to deal with. Choose a rich conditioner and a comb with big teeth.

6.  Moisturize your nappy hair again and again!

Apply as much conditioner as you can and wait for a couple of minutes until it is all absorbed.

To keep your frizzy hair moisturized, try some of the following masks you can make at home, with natural ingredients:

•    Blend aloe vera gel with coconut oil and a tablespoon of honey. Leave this mask on for about 1,5 hours and then rinse it well. It is the go-to for dehydrated curly hair as the aloe vera and coconut oil are the most moisturizing combo.

•    Blend one egg with some olive oil and a tablespoon of honey. Eggs are known for their proteins that make your hair grow really fast and restore them. Leave it on for 30 minutes and wash well, using some vinegar to eliminate any smells. Also, use cold or lukewarm water if you don’t want to end up with scrambled eggs on your hair…

•     Apply any oil on your scalp and hair and massage gently to dilate the blood vessels and boost hair growth. The best oils to choose from are castor oil, almond oil, olive oil and coconut oil. As they may leave your hair greasy, before getting your hair wet after the massage, apply your shampoo all over your hair and then wash.

7.  Try different hair oils on your nappy

Hair oils are always good, but once you want your hair to grow, start thinking to invest in a better hair oil like the real jojoba oil. It will work wonders on your nappy hair! Start using one of the best hair oils and forget about bad texture hair and split ends.

8.  Wear protective hairstyles

Braids are the go-to protective style for afro hair. They require minimal upkeep. By limiting its exposure to the damages caused by the heat, the cold or over-manipulation, they also help keep your hair healthy.

Growing your nappy hair fast is a long process that requires consistent effort. The results won’t come overnight. It may take years to get the hair you desire. Even getting your hair to the right level of moisture will take months, but don’t be discouraged.

This journey aims to renew your hair and not only to make them longer. It is a process that will change your lifestyle and your routine, but also your look. Don’t wait for tomorrow, start now with small steps and your impressive long and healthy natural afro hair will be your reward.
